How the Vanishing Card works
Your card was not the only one to go. None of the five cards you saw came back.
Every card has a twin
Each court card has a twin: the same letter in the same color, with the other suit of that color. Spades swap with clubs. Hearts swap with diamonds. The King of Spades and the King of Clubs look almost the same.
Why only yours seems gone
You picked one card and said its name to yourself three times. That card stuck. The other four did not: you remember them only as a red queen or a black jack. The four that come back fit that fuzzy memory, so they look like the cards you saw. Only yours seems to be missing.
The site never knows your card. It leaves one card out at random, and often the twin of your card is one of the four. That twin has the letter and color of your card, but not its suit, so it is not your card. Look closely at the suits next time.
Do it for a friend
Take five court cards, no two with the same letter and color. Hide the twins of four of them in your pocket. Show the five and ask your friend to pick one in their head. Put the five away and bring out the four twins. Never show both groups at once.
